What to do when it gets hard to get going?
While the weekend can be a time to rest and reset, it’s also a time to work towards some of those personal goals and projects. If you are like me, you find it difficult to get a bit of momentum to get going around the home.
I find it so hard to find the motivation which comes down to the big days I do during the week, getting up and out the door before 5:45 am and home at approximately 8:30 pm so when the weekend rolls around I relish the rest and relax. But in an aim to pivot out of my weekend sloth-like state, I have adopted a variation of the Pomodoro technique to give me a bit more pep in my step.
Traditionally the Pomodoro technique is a time-management strategy that involves breaking your workday into 25-minute intervals, known as “Pomodoros,” with a five-minute break in between each one. After completing four Pomodoros, take a longer break of around 15-30 minutes. During each Pomodoro, you focus on a single task, aiming to eliminate all distractions and interruptions
But for the weekend I set my “break time” as cleaning the house for about 10min and my “work time” of 20min to do tasks that contribute towards my goals. Applying a little pressure on myself by boxing the time, I start to get a bit more motivated to get the work done and managing two different tasks that I switch between works perfectly especially when one is sedentary and heavy thinking while the other is mindless movement giving me a balance and I come out at the end of it having achieved two very different outcomes.
The take away
If you find it hard to stay on task over the weekend try apply Pomodoro.
I use a fitness HIIT app to get me through the day and switch between.
