resource stability

What is that one simple task you know needs to get done, but really struggle with getting it done?

Mine is going to the grocery store to buy an item that the house has run out of. I either forget to go get it, or fight against doing it and before I know it a whole day can pass me by in which a good portion of it was processing this internal battle. It is the simplest task, but for reasons unknown to myself I internally struggle to get it done.

So knowing this is a part of me that I have to battle I have explored to get the best out of myself – and that is working to remove the trigger, I simply make sure that I have backups of what I need around the house; never to run out have to do an emergency shop.

But it gets better, having back-ups of items in the house also means that I have the time to shop around and get the best deals to stock up on.

I feel that there is a comfort that is created when your base needs are met.

So my practice is as follows

There is a bit of a process to my shopping (I am who I am)

1) Create a list on google sheets and noted down the stock numbers. When use up a resource I will update the stock numbers. This works for my non-consumables (eg. batteries, moisturizers and cleaning products)

2) Any items I flag I might need are then added to a Keep note that is set to trigger every Wednesday morning.

When Keep triggers me

3) I will check the catalogues for their deals using the Shopfully app

4) Check the Woolworths rewards app for any special deals

5) Write down what I am buying from where and execute.

6) App shopping (consumable items), I will add items to the shopping cart as I remember them

When I go shopping I try my best to update the stock notes – but it’s not a stress, I have a routine set to go through and monitor passively.

And while this seems a bit full-on. I find it takes less time for me to manage my household in this proactive manner than getting to the point where I desperately need something and battle the difficulty/defiance I sometimes experience about going out to do an emergency shop.

A younger version of myself would scoff at the idea as it seems a bit full-on, in all honesty, the 30 min it takes to be proactive by monitoring catalogues for sales prior to running out outweighs the possibility of spiralling for 2 hours.
