know thy function

If you have read my blog chronologically you might have seen a trend that I create worksheets for everything. Upon reflection, I think it is my method of feeling in control. Which lends itself well to this blog, in my humble opinion.

I have found that writing it out into the physical world helps to ‘manifest’, or as I like to explain it to myself: raises awareness subconsciously to find the patterns to act upon. 🤓

Now, this is the part where I explain my crazy by segwaying into mbti, sosionics and cognitive functions -which had been a hyper focus of mine for a year. Now I am not going to write another explanation for all the combinations!

Through the years I get a consistent result of INTJ (NiTe). I try to be mindful not to have typed myself and adjust behaviour to match the stereotype but rather look at the other cognitive functions and see how I can align and further develop with them.

Carl Jung, MBTI and sosionics has really resonated with me and while the topic of MBIT could be viewed as another version of horoscopes as some view it as too soft for the soft sciences – its the list of cognitive functions at the core of each persons’ psyche that determines how they perceive the world and information around them that is really interesting. Learning it has helped a socially awkward person like me understand that not everyone is going to be on the same page as me, and more importantly there are other pages in that book that place greater focus on other areas.

My dominant function is NI and the auxiliary is TE, and that’s where all the tables and written activities come from. Strategizing and categorising is where how I make sense of the world…I am the type of person who can’t start moving until I look at the to-do list in front of me.

Using this framework has been great in helping me start to understand myself and my default behaviours.

This is where I will leave this blog post for this week… planting the seed for potentially years of introspections.
