baseline living benchmarks

There was a moment back in April 2020, in the midst of pandemic lockdowns, when I got a lot of time to reflect on how I was going in life. I soon realised that I wasn’t hitting all my targets, and even worse I had paid no attention to what I really needed either. I was just living my life reacting to my responsibilities rather than being proactive and planning it out. Well, it was time for a change.

I sat down one day and listed out all of the responsibilities I had for the moment in life that I am in and put things in place on how to manage them. And because I love slapping long convoluted names on things I called it my “baseline living benchmarks” (BLB).

Now, I know I know, this is all very much basic adulting – but if you haven’t already got an action plan for all the items on your BLB items, then it’s time to start!

// Activity ⭕⭕⭕

1. In the first column List out all your responsibilities, bills, (not goals)
2. then identify what is needed to achieve competency in that responsibility
3. what tools or systems can support these needs.

While it may seem like extra work in the beginning, I have found that identifying and addressing these needs had turned the unknowns into knowns. Pivoting my energy and focus from reactive to proactive. For example, when the bills come in I am able to essentially pay them all without having to review my finances because I know it is budgeted for.

This all reads as really simple stuff for some, but for a dreamer like me, I took a little longer to get on this train – but totally happy and carefree now that I am here!
